More UK data — more HBD skepticism

Here are the age 7 g scores from wave 4 of the Millennium Cohort Study. The kids were tested in 2008 using the British Ability Scale. The first column shows the gQ, the second column shows the standard error, and the last shows the sample sizes. The Black-White differences is a mere .36 SD. For comparison, Flynn and Dickens (2005) gives an age 7 US difference of .5 SD.

Below are the Age 5 FIQs from this same study.

This still doesn’t tell us anything about those children left behind in Africa, not to mention about adult IQ which is the one that really matters for a society.

Also, data from a country in which you can literally get arrested for criticizing minorities is unreliable at best.

I’ve already explained that it tells us quite a bit. It sets an upper limit to the European-African gap. And that upper limit is much lower than what most ‘race realists’ contend. Refer here: http://occidentalascent.wordpress.com/2012/02/06/is-global-race-realism-still-tenable/ (see points 2b to 2d.

Why does one figure that shows a small gap “set an upper limit on the gap”, but other figures that show a very large gap do not set a lower limit on the gap?

An alternative explanation of the smallness of the gap is that many schools cheated, or turned a blind eye to cheating, to avoid politically undesirable results. Another explanation of the smallness of the gap is that it is intentionally or unintentionally a social class matched sample, comparing not blacks and whites, but blacks and whites of the targeted class.

So when it comes to sex differences, researchers conduct large international meta-reviews and typically find conflicting results. But the inconsistency of the results isn’t seen as proof of environmental contra genetic causation as it’s appreciated that multiple factors interact to effect differences and, as such, that genetic differences will manifest as patterns not as uniform cross spatial, temporal results. I have noted before that the totality of the evidence is not inconsistent with Jensen and Rusthon’s mid to lower bounds estimate; J & R effectively proposed a pure-blood European-West African genetic g difference of 0.75 to 1.2 SD. The evidence (based on SEM, admixture studies, adoptions (my estimate), and UK performance) is, however, inconsistent with Lynn’s hypothesis (a genetic d of g of 1.2). If you want, I will walk you through the math.

how do you know this data is even accurate – not made up? I don’t trust anything from the UK.

  3. anon123 says:

You are not taking into account selective immigration. Around half the british black population is of recent origin from Africa (2001 UK Census, 565,876 Black Caribbean, 485,277 as Black African). These recent immigrants many of which work in health or education are not typical of their community of origin. 25% of them have a degree compared to around 1% in Africa

44 percent of African immigrants to US had achieved a college degree, compared with 23 percent of the U.S. population as a whole. If you were to compare recent immigrants from Africa to the US population as a whole, you would come to the similar wrong conclusion that there is no difference between black and white IQ.

  4. anon123 says:

i should add. Half of british blacks are drawn from the top 1% of their population (in Africa). But shouldn’t their kids regress to the norm? Not necessarily, in places like Nigeria (the single biggest supplier of UK blacks) there is a tradition of elite families who were advisors to kings, first in line for colonial goodies, and now well educated. (similar to Indian castes). Hence, if people who have been 3 or 4 generation elites in Africa, and are the top 1% of African performance, subsequently come to UK i would expect there kids to perform higher than the African norm (ditto for kids of 4 generation american elites). Added to that the culture of education in Africa which is the ‘tiger mom’ – beat education into them.

Add to this, the GSCE is so de-based it is little more than a test of basic numeracy and literacy. Making tests very easy, reduces BW difference.

    Current GCSE MATHS
    (a) Write the number 1345 in words.
    (b) Write the number twelve thousand seven hundred and fifty in figures.
    (c) Write the number 4670 to the nearest hundred.

    4. Simone and Barry use this rule to work out their pay.
Pay = £6.20 × number of hours worked
    Simone works for 4 hours.
    (a) Work out her pay

    1985 GCSE MATHS
    11) Solve the simultaneous equations:
    3x – 4y = 25
    4x – 5y = 32

    8) a)A rectangular courtyard 17m long by 9¼m wide is to be covered by square paving slabs each of side ½m. Calculate the number of paving slabs which will be required.

    • dontbedishonest says:

Your comparison of GCSE questions is very misleading. questions always vary quite widely in difficulty. pupils still have to solve simultaneous equations, basic geometric problems and so on…

    to add again :)

there is widespread confusion on regression to the norm on the HBD sphere. As most discussants appear to be male, let me give a simple example. If you marry a really smart girl and all her relatives are waitresses, and firemen, and factory workers, your kids will be average too. if you marry a really smart girl and all her family are writers and judges and profs, your kids will be much brighter than average (on average).

Within relatively stable societies, the phenomenon of high achieving families is common and their offspring regress to high achieving norm not a societal norm (google darwin, huxleys, etc etc)

  6. anon123 says:

just read: 56% of young black males in britain are unemployed — more than twice the national average. Remind me: how does that square with no difference? Maybe racist English employers?
